I was so looking forward to coming here based on the reviews, after eating here it makes me think being from LA people in Utah don't know a good tamale. I waited at the front for a short while I thought maybe they had just opened but it was noon. I had the chips and salsa and it tasted sweet which was a little wierd but the chips were fresh. I tried the jalapeno and cheese, there was way to much mushy masa and not enough cheese. I tried the bean and cheese that had cheddar cheese and a few beans and nearly all masa...it was inedible. Overall, the ratio of masa to filling is off and the flavor is meh. If your from LA or love flavorful tamales then this might not be the place for you. On a positive note the prices are great.

Extremely friendly staff and great tamales. They also have really unique salsa that's fresh and tasty. No fancy garnishes here, but you don't need it with flavorful food.

Coming to Utah from a place in California that is less than 20 minutes away from Mexico, it took a little time to adjust to not having tons of authentic Mexican food readily available. Fast forward to today, where now I can easily fill that craving by heading over to Tamales Tita. Tamales Tita, as the name may imply, serves all kinds of tamales. The usual tamales, such as pork, chicken, chicken mole, etc. are all served here, as well as ones that are not quite as common, such as a sweat cream one and even a breakfast style tamale. I'd had all their tamales, and the pork is my favorite. She has many serving styles available for the tamales as well. You can grab them ala carte, smothered with sauce, and even have them fried. My favorite style is smothered with mole sauce, served with two eggs. The real gem for me, though, is the buffet. Each day of the week is a different rotation of items. She has familiar items like tamales, chile rellenos, soups, and other not quite as recognized items, such as chorizo with cactus, molotes, and albondigas. Her albondigas deserve a section of their own. If you're not sure what albondigas are, it is a Hispanic style meatball. The way Tamales Tita does theirs is to put an egg on the inside, and braise the whole meatball in a tomato based sauce. I love albondigas, and it was so great to find a place that does them justice. Even though they are listed as an entree on the menu, they are (as of now) only available in the buffet on a Tuesday. I can't end this review without mentioning how great the owner is. She is always nice and very receptive of suggestions. Once suggestion that was made by a friend was to have thicker chips, and that's what she serves now. Another thing I mentioned was that the horchata was better when it was a little more frothy, and that's how it's been every since. I think it goes a long way in showing that the owners care about their customers when they take the time to chat with them and also ask for suggestions (and follow through on them). If you're wanting authentic tamales, look no further, but definitely give their buffet and other menu items a try as well...you won't leave disappointed.

Tita (Grandma) Tamale has been in the catering business for 10 years and finally opened up this sit down location. Chicken mole, breakfast sausage, and sweet cream is all good! If you like Tamales, definitely check out this joint.

This should actually be 3.5, but I do like all the variations on tamales, which I don't often see, so I'll give them the push. This is as much of a Mexican hole-in-the-wall as you can get, one of the few places around that practically shrieked authentic at me as soon as I walked in the door. Décor is right on the money, it smells right and the set-up is right there. That part is a done deal. Service is also a bit clunky, but friendly, which also sort of fits into that. Chips and salsa were decent, if a bit unspectacular. Everything here seems to be made fresh, which is a huge plus. Obviously, if I'm coming to a tamale place, that's what the Hell I'm getting and here are my thoughts on the ones I had: Pineapple - surprising taste and very, very good, one of my favorites. Jalapeno & cheese - expected a bit more somehow...still pretty good. Chicken - with the green sauce, this was borderline heaven. Really enjoyed this. Taken again by surprise. Pork - with the red sauce, definite step down from the chicken. Unusual because pork is typically a consistent favorite. Stick with the green sauce. Bean & Cheese - yes, I'm a pig. Want to make something of it? If you're looking for trouble, you can meet me on the internet! Anyway, I didn't need to order this one and was running into masa fatigue by this point. Good, but not to the level of the chicken. This place really seems like it could be a lot of fun most nights and I daresay they're sort of working up their own little community there. Good on them for that and if I was in the area more, I'd definitely be doing my best to try and be a part of it. No idea on their other offerings, but if you're into tamales at all, this place is a must.

If your looking for a fancy place this is not it. However if you want some tasty home made food this is where you want to be. Little mom and pop place, super friendly, and tastes great! I think most of their business is from catering however they do have some tables for sit down dining. I also saw that they had bags of a doz tamales bagged up and ready to go in the fridge. Nice to know for when I have a craving but don't want to make my own.

This is a hidden gem for sure! The pork tamale was amazingly delicious and as close as it gets to being homemade! I will be back for more!!!

The owner and her son were fantastic before the food even came. There are many affordable meals and based on the 4 meals we tried, you can't go wrong. This is authentic food that will please an American palate. They told me they have entertainment in Thursdays and a buffet style lunch with handmade tortillas. They are very proud of their authentic menu and i for one am glad they do it that way.

Come try this place when you get a chance! Everything is so good!! I tried the nachos, enmolada, and the tamale enchilada style. We expected the nachos to be tiny with no meat because it was only $4.99 but it was so filling and it came with carne asada! The mole on the enmolada was very authentic and the red sauce complimented the pork tamale very well! (This was recommended to us by the waitress). This is a very cute, family owned restaurant and the customer sevice is awesome! I would highly recommend this place to everyone! I ordered a breakfast tamale to go (bacon, egg, and cheese) and I can't wait to try it tomorrow morning!

The staff was friendly. I liked the different vegetarian options from sweet cream filled tamales, cinnamon, bean and cheese, pineapple tamale, and even began tamales. I ate some there and ordered some to take home too.

Tried the enchilada style tamales (jalapeno & cheese and pork) and the pineapple tamale for dessert. Yum! I love tamales and these are probably the best I've ever had. I'll be back to try more flavors very soon. I've already told at least 4 people about this place.

This had been a pretty awesome discovery in the west side of town. Tamales, or Latino "Zongzi" has their similarity with the Chinese counterpart. I grew eating zongzi during festivals, tamales seem to have the similar history, and they are like my lighter fallback as zongzis are not around all year long here like in Asia. Fried Tamales were definitely the way to go if you never tried their tamales before. I had three different flavors when I was there. Pork was more of the traditional flavor. Breakfast was an interesting mix to bring tamales as a breakfast dish with eggs inside. Jalapeno Cheese was another combination if you are into cheese. All of them were tasty in their own ways. They seem to have a lunch buffet on certain day of the week as well. Other dishes with tamales in them seem worth trying one of these days. Much are innovated dishes you would never find at other Mexican restaurants. Tamales Tita is definitely the place to go if you have any craving for tamales. I only wish they are not located that far west. The owner lady was also super nice, and this place would not be same without her. Too bad they only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday, other days they close at 6pm.

Ok, I tried this at work. They keep coming on a certain day and I tried it once and it was way mushy. The worst tamale I have ever had. I tried it again and that's it. No more. I threw away half of it. My Mexican coworker also doesn't like it. She said real Mexican tamales should not be that mushy. Perhaps I should go to the restaurant itself to try it out for sure since it's got such high ranking. HOWEVER, the ones put at these workplaces should be for the restaurant's marketing strategy, so people would go eat the restaurant, but it's so terrible I don't wanna go to the restaurant. That being said, please consider checking the quality of these tamales that go out for corporations and other workplaces. They always arrive all mushy and smashed up that it's unappetizing after a few bites.

There is no need to look anywhere for tamales. A little tiny, out of the way place, but do not miss it! All of the staff are very friendly and hospitable. But let's talk about tamales, shall we? My husband and I sampled the pineapple, bean + cheese, chicken, pork, mole chicken and corn + cinnamon. The chicken had green chili verde inside, and had the perfect balance of tangy and spicy. The pork was amazing, moist and full of flavor. Great mole, and the corn and cinnamon was very different, but still quite tasty. The bean and cheese had just the right balance of cheese to beans, and the pineapple tamale blew me away. Even though we visited toward the end of the day, the tamales were not dried out. Some of the best tamales I've ever had, and at ridiculously good prices. Tamales Tita is very likely going to be a regular stop for us.

I love this place. The owner is very friendly. I like the creativity in the food and not doing just the typical tamales or other Mexican food. The food is decently priced and nothing too expensive. This is the only place that I know that gives you the option of frying your tamale. And we know frying anything is never bad other then adding to your wasitline, but sometimes you just got to splurge. The other thing I like is their mole sauce. Try their enmolada. It's an enchilada topped with mole instead of enchilada sauce. They even have a breakfast tamale with bacon. Things to look forward to in the near future: a buffet, a possible dessert that includes ice cream and caramel sauce. They'll be changing their hours soon and closing at 6pm, so try to come in for lunch or early dinner. Come and support local =)

Delicious food. Slow service, but it is a small staff and was very busy. Homemade chips, tasty salsa. I had tamales enchilada style with mole. In all our group tried pork, chicken, jalapeño and cheese, bean and cheese and pineapple tamales. All were good. We'll be back.

I have been enjoying the tamales from Tamales Tita for years at the Wheeler Farm Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. I just tried their new restaurant location. The food was amazing! I had the Tamales Enchilada style with rice and beans. The food quality is high, the amount of food is plenty and the price is low. I will be back for more and would recommend you try them.

When I was a kid my neighbor would make home made tamales, it was like christmas when she invited my family over for dinner. Those were some of the best meals of my life. This place took me right back there. I got the tamales enchilada plate and it was a perfect amount of food and the price was fantastic. The staff was remarkable friendly and while certainly not lavish the place was clean and well kept. I complain about everything but I can't seem to find a reason to be dissatisfied about Tamales Tita. Go eat here, you wont be disappointed.

This place is a hidden gem in West Jordan. Aleen makes everything down to the Horchata from scratch. The Tamales are large, packed with meat, and moist. (Yeah I used the word moist) You can also order tamales by the dozen and they have about 8 different flavors to choose from. Do yourself a favor and visit this oasis in the midst of wannabe's.

Sorry for the first non 5 star review, but I didn't like the tamales I got.I tried the pork which I got fried,(which was really good)and the breakfast tamale and the chicken tamale I believe. Definitely get your tamale fried it was immensely better. A couple good things being the tamales are really cheap only like $1.75 each and 2.50ish if they're fried also the service was great and the owner was very nice.

This was an amazing find. Very legit Mexican food and the whole family helps with the restaurant. Tamales were delish and I'd go here for the chips and salsa alone!!! The chips were sooooo good! Horchata was great. Please go support there cause!

legit tamales for about $1.75 each so needless to say you can get a lot of food for only $10. stuff is made fresh and good. can't go wrong with anything here. they have a lot of condiments for you on the side to choose from. they have desserts too like homemade mexican ice cream so you shoudl try it. they have enchilada style tamales you should try if you like tamales and you like enchilada sauce with lots of cheese. you order, pay then sit and wait for your food. it's pretty casual and mom & pop type of fast food franchise. id come back here as many times as i can

Really, really good. The chiles rellenos taste just like what I used to get at fondas back home in Mexico City. Tasted the rajas con queso, pollo and pineapple tamales, pretty decent. We also enjoyed the torta de milanesa. Can't wait to go back and try other things!

BEWARE! The mole-with-chicken, tamal frito will change your life. It will give you a belief in the divine and cure cancer. I'm pretty sure their tamales have magical powers, and their mole will help you travel through time. Plus, it's one of the few places with good chilaquilas. Go if you dare to be blown away!

We came here because of the reviews on Yelp. We had the Emoladas and four different tamales, two regular and two fried. It was all delicious and very reasonably priced. We are planning on bringing our family back here for sure.

Went there with a group of friends for lunch. We all loved it. Everything is homemade and the ingredients are the real stuff. One of the women I went with is very knowledgeable about Mexican cooking and she was impressed. We will definitely go there again.

DELICIOUS! I've sampled a fair share of tamales and these are among the best. My family tried the vegan (bean) tamales at the Wheeler Farmer's Market on Sunday. They were so wonderful I was struggling to share with my toddler and had to go back and get him one of his own. Tamales Tita is on my way home from work in West Jordan and I'll be stopping by today pick up tamales for dinner for my family. We've been looking forward to this meal since Sunday. I can't say anything about the service in the restaurant because we haven't dined in, but we received very pleasant service at the farmer's market and based on other reviewers' comments I'd expect much of the same. My family is so excited to have found this gem!

Went here for the first time last night after seeing how highly it was rated on yelp. It did not disappoint. We tried the pork, breakfast and chicken with mole enchilada style with red chile sauce and a fried jalapeno and cheese tamale. They were all fantastic. The service was a little slow, but the owner came out to help the server meet the demand. Very friendly service, great prices and very filling. I'll be going back as soon as I can to try the rest of the menu.

I stumbled upon this today and couldn't have been more pleased. We got the buffet that they had which included delicious tamales and a lot of other great food. I had posole which I had never tried before and it was so good. Definitely pushed me to to try new things. The owner and our server were so friendly. We will definitely be back!

Best tamales I've had in a very long long time. Folks here are friendly and tamales are awesome! Salsa is freshly made and chips are thick and crunchy. They were out of their breakfast tamales do will have to return to try them. We had the pork and chicken and cheese and jalapeño enchilada style and hubby got tamal con Ganas it comes with 2 fried eggs and beans. Excellent!l

This little place of heaven is worth the stop! Tamales are ok I feel they have too much "corn" stuff but everything else is pure delishiousness. Yes that is a word!

Amazing! I love the owner, she is so sweet, and the tamales are delicious! I can't wait to check out their lunch buffet! It looks AMAZING! Love this place, just wish it was a little closer to my house and I would go ever day!

These are truly very good tamales. My friends like the pork and I prefer the chicken mole'. Up until now they have only been available at farmers markets and other events catering to food vendors. I am happy they have a permanent location. I haven't tried there're other Mexican fare, But I can swear by their tamales.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
